During the Econometric Career Days, there is plenty of opportunity to meet companies that work in one of the various fields of econometrics. There are many different activities giving you the opportunity to connect with a diverse range of companies.
The events during which you can meet potential employers are the following:
- Cases
A case is a perfect way to learn about a company’s work field and their company culture. You get to work on a representative company case thereby allowing you to learn more about the company and to apply your analytical skills to tackle a problem. Afterwards, there is either a lunch or drink included in a morning or afternoon case, respectively, where you get to talk to the employees and ask all your questions. Find out here which cases will take place during the ECD 2024.
- Presentations
During a presentation at the ECD, a company will describe their daily practices at their company to you. They will talk to you about interesting projects that they have worked on or are currently working on and explain the career opportunities. Find out here which presentations will take place during the ECD 2024.
- Interviews
This year you have the opportunity to do an interview with Optiver, Flow Traders, or Da Vinci. Note that you will need to add your CV when submitting your application.
- Company and Branch dinner
This year, we have one company dinner and three branch dinners - a Finance dinner, an Actuarial Dinner, and a Consultancy dinner. The Finance dinner hosts PGGM and Van Lanschot Kempen, the Consultancy dinner hosts Argon&Co, ITDS, and EY, and the Actuarial dinner hosts Triple A, Oliver Wyman, and Maaslloyd. The company dinner is with Deloitte. Each dinner starts with a short presentation to introduce the companies and then will allow you to meet various employees in an informal setting. This gives you a chance to ask any questions you may have and to meet your potential future colleagues! Find out more about the dinners here.
- Informal Events
Last year we organised a variety of fun informal events where you get to meet companies through social activities in an informal setting in order to see if you are character wise a good fit for the company and whether their atmosphere matches yours. The informal activities this year consist of a wine tasting with Milliman, Padel with SKIM, Padel with IG&H, and an playing pool with Achmea. It is a unique experience for you to have fun while networking and have the opportunity to get to know a company. Find out more about the informal events here.
- Field Trip
Every year, the ECD offers an exciting opportunity to witness econometrics in action through our Field Trip, where we explore how this powerful tool is used in unexpected fields. It is a chance to gain first-hand experience and see the impact of econometrics beyond traditional industries. Past attendees have found this event incredibly inspiring, so do not miss out!
This year, we are visiting the Information Analysis Team (IAT), a unique collaboration established in 2018 by the Netherlands Police Force Command Team and the Minister of Justice and Security. The IAT brings together experts from the police, the ministry, and the Netherlands Statistical Bureau (CBS) to form a hybrid team focusing on conducting in-depth quantitative analyses on social, safety, and policing issues. They also continuously monitor these areas to track developments over time. Their work provides crucial insights that shape strategic management decisions for the police force and serve as key inputs for discussions between the Commissioner and the Minister.
This field trip is a rare opportunity to see how econometrics can influence public policy and contribute to enhancing societal safety. Join us to explore the intersection of data, policy, and security and discover how your skills could make a real-world impact
- Impact Day
After last year’s successful Impact Day, we again want to reiterate the kind of impact that you can make with your professional career. We offer cases, presentations, workshops and a drink to allow you to meet companies in which you can make an impact. The cases are held by Cardano and de Nationale Postcode Loterij, both companies that strive towards making a positive impact. The presentation is held by Defensity College, and you can meet them for a drink afterwards. The workshop is held by Erasmus Medical Center. All-in-all, it is a unique opportunity to find how you can steer your career towards impact. Find out here which companies participate in the Impact Day 2024.
During the Econometric Career Days, there are certain events that are held in Dutch. This is the request of the company as they either only hire Dutch nationals or Dutch speaking employees. Therefore, the event is held in Dutch to attend to this fact. For Dutch events it will be clearly stated in the description that they will be held in Dutch. If you have any questions, feel free to send an email to info@ecdrotterdam.nl.
